Meet the staff:

 

Camp Butter & Egg is owned and operated by Ron and Susan Pierce. Throughout the year, part-time workers and student interns are also on staff to lead recreation, teach specific sports skills, and develop group experiences to meet the goals of camp participants.

 

Ron Pierce heads the baseball and softball training programs, as well as co-directing all camp programs. Retired from Troy University with 25 years experience directing auxiliary services, student activities, intramural programs, student center and ID card operations, Ron brings a vast array of experience and skill to Camp Butter and Egg. As a college student, Ron played baseball for Edison Community College (FL) and Troy State University (AL) earning all conference honors as a pitcher. Ron has coached at all levels of Dixie Baseball and developed and coached the first American Legion Baseball program in the area. Additionally, he developed a unique batting-tee, the Multi-Tee®, which is distributed nationally and used by coaches and training centers across the country. He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Troy State University. Ron has served on the Troy City Board of Education for the past 9 years.

Susan Pierce co-directs camp programs and is the lead challenge course facilitator. With 25 years experience in counseling, new student orientation, student retention, academic advisement, and career planning, Susan retired from Troy University in 2006 and joined the camp staff in 2007. Susan has been instrumental in developing the low-ropes challenge course and has completed training by an ACCT-approved practitioner. With considerable experience in group development, motivational techniques, counseling and team building, Susan designs experiences to meet the unique needs of each group participant. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Troy State University. Susan is also a Weight Watchers leader and teaches a first-grade Sunday School class with First Baptist Church.

Sally Jones is the lead softball instructor and facilitates other recreational programs for Camp Butter & Egg. An all-district and all-area softball player for Wakulla HS (FL), Sally was a utility player and infielder for Troy University’s Lady Trojan softball team  from 2003-2006. Sally holds a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Troy University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports management.

Debbie Smartt, a full-time physical educator with the Troy City School System, joins the camp staff in the summer. Debbie has extensive experience in leading recreation, and is skilled in developing programs for children. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Troy State University and holds CPR and first aid certification.

Natalie Pierce serves as part-time camp counselor and lifeguard. She is pursuing a degree in sports management with Troy University and has served as a C.I.T. (counselor-in-training) for YMCA Camp Cosby. She holds current Red Cross lifeguard and CPR certification.
